Secondary Art Teacher

The Secondary Art Teacher is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive visual arts program that supports student learning and artistic development. The teacher provides engaging instruction that promotes creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression while helping students build artistic skills and appreciation for the arts. The Secondary Art Teacher creates a positive learning environment and collaborates with students, families, and staff to support student success.

Qualifications:

• State of Michigan certification and endorsement in art instruction.
• Experience is preferred but not necessary for hiring.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, parents/guardians, and students to develop and implement strategies that support student growth, engagement, and achievement in the visual arts.
• Partner with building administrators and instructional staff to promote cross-curricular connections through professional learning opportunities, research-based strategies, and modeling of effective instructional practices that support student learning across content areas.
• Recognize and celebrate a variety of student achievements, artistic accomplishments, and positive behaviors to foster student motivation and success. Updated June 2026 JP
• Maintain effective classroom management and provide appropriate supervision to ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to strengthen instructional practices, expand content knowledge, and enhance support for adolescent learners and students from diverse backgrounds.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.

Physical Requirements:

• Regular sitting, speaking, hearing, and use of hands. Occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
